Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr is on an indefinite leave of absence from the team as he deals with health issues and might not return this postseason. Speaking to reporters Monday, Draymond Green said, via the San Francisco Chronicle, that he and his teammates are proceeding as if the coach won’t return to the bench at all for the rest of the playoffs.

In Kerr’s absence, Mike Brown, who has seven-plus years of head coaching experience at stops that included the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers, has taken the reins and coached the team to a first-round series sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Warriors are not strangers to playing without Kerr, who missed 43 games last season dealing with a back issue. Filling in as interim coach, Luke Walton, now the Los Angeles Lakers coach, guided the team to a 24-0 start.

Although Kerr is not on the sideline coaching during games, the Chronicle reports that he remains involved with the team behind the scenes and spoke to Mike Brown “a couple times” on Monday.

The Warriors, who are still the favorites to win the NBA Finals with or without Kerr, begin their second-round series Tuesday night against the Jazz.
