Ghana Fire Service Male Basketball Team’s excellent start to the 2017 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I season has ended on a bad note following a second straight loss in as many weeks in the tough league.
After winning four straight games including an 87-84 win over league leaders Tema Youth, Fire has dropped two consecutive games to Braves of Customs (52-65) and 64-67 to Adenta Leopards to close the first round of league ties.
The loss to Leopards was the more pronounced considering Adenta was shorthanded and missed key players in the matchup.
Much worse, the team’s hitherto tough defensive line couldn’t handle Leopards big men Paul Nsakie and Charles Annan on the boards as the pair roasted Fire on the boards.
On the perimeter, Leopards Forward Muhaimin Guba sliced through despite manning the Point position due to the absence of Bajigah Mohammed.
Despite a late surge on the back off a three point shooting barrage which shaved Fire’s deficit to just a point with seven seconds left to play, the team couldn’t complete the turn around.
