Fire Service has lost its first game of the 2017 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I after suffering a 52-65 loss to Braves of Customs in a heated gamed played at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu.
Fire got into the fixture as the only side yet to lose a game in the division but a tough duel against the defending champions proved too much for the side.
Despite the loss, Fire started well scoring five straight points with Shooting Guard David Laryea scoring a three point shot. His opposite number Baniba Dodzie and Daniel Aryee got into the mix for Braves to get the side back in the game with a 7-5 lead.
Backup Guard Jeffrey Djimatey helped Daniel Aryee out in the scoring department by scoring consecutive shots from behind the three point line to extend the lead 47-32 at the end of the third quarter.
Fire’s Okoe, who was a the team’s major threat on offense fouled out of the game with 3:45 left to play as tempers flared. Braves maintained it lead to clinch an important win for the side.
As Fire’s winning run came tumbling, DC Dynamics losing run came tumbling as well with the side earning a 62-61 win over Ghana Navy in the second game. Dynamics win is remarkable considering the side battled from a 26-6 first quarter deficit.
However, Dynamics Captain Dennis Boateng completed a three point play in the second quarter to slash Dynamics deficit to 13 following a 21-34 score after the quarter. David Maja owned the third quarter dropping 15 points to give his side a 44-43 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Michael Sakor gave Navy a 59-58 lead with 1:14 left to play in the fourth quarter but a technical foul slapped on Navy gave Dynamics the chance to score and grab the win.
Prior to the matchup, Dynamics were winless in three games played same as Navy who recordedtheir fifth loss of the season.
