The opening ceremony of 2017 edition of the Ghana Polytechnic Sports Association (GHAPSA) Games will be officially held today at the Bolagatanga Polytechnic in Ghana’s Upper East Region.
The competition has all of the West African nation’s ten Polytechnics and Technical Universities set to participate in multiple sports disciplines including football, track and field events, volley ball, badminton among others.
Basketball is the headlining event to look out for as reigning champions Accra Technical University (ATU) readies to defend its title; the side won the 2015 edition in Kumasi.
Ahead of the competition, the defending champions are set to feature a strong side rich with talented players including former Ghana Basketball Most Valuable Player Award winners Abdul Mutalib Alhassan and Suleman Abubakar.
Despite placing third in the just ended Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship, ATU is highly tipped to defend its title ahead of strong rivals and last year’s silver medalist Takoradi Technical University and Kumasi Technical University.
