University of Ghana (UG) has tied Accra Technical University’s (ATU) record number of UPAC Basketball Championships following the team’s recent triumph in the annual tertiary basketball competition.
UG beat Marshalls University College 41-23 to win this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
Prior to this year’s edition, ATU held the record number of titles after winning the 2011 and 2015 editions.
Conversely, Accra Technical lost 44-45 in controversial circumstances to UG in last year’s final to end the team’s three consecutive Championship winning ambitions.
UG topped that performance with an another unbeaten run to claim the 2017 edition ahead of PUSAG (Private Universities Sports Associations Games) Basketball Champions Marshalls.
Unlike last year, UG produced a complete dominant performance to outclass the opposing side and write its name in the history books.
After a successful defense of the title despite losing as many as seven players from the 2016 team, it remains to be seen if UG can make it three straight wins in Ghana’s most prestigious tertiary basketball championship.
ATU placed third in this year’s competition.
