The University of Ghana (UG) Sport Fund will be launched next month according to the tertiary’s institution’s Director of Sports Dr. Bello Bella Bitugu.
The Fund, an initiative of Ghana’s premier university’s Sports Directorate, has been created to support student athletes during their stay in the institution.
“Basically it will give bursary to the students, it will pay their academic user fee… it will pay the residential fee… they will send them for training, gets kits for them. The Sport Fund is there to support athletes in the University of Ghana to nurture their talent, develop their talent and push and promote them”.
He further stated the Fund will be officially launched in May but an exact date is yet to be agreed on.
Dr. Bitugu made the announcement when he appeared on basketball television show “Courtside” on Kwese Free Sports a day after UG clinched a second successive UPAC Basketball Championship title.
UG beat 41-23 Marshalls University College to win this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges Basketball Championship.
