University of Ghana (UG) Director of Sports Dr. Bello Bella Bitugu has dismissed claims UG beat a fatigued Marshalls University College to win this year’s UPAC Basketball Championship courtesy a 41-23 win.
The veteran educationist brushed aside such suggestions when he made an appearance on basketball television show “Courtside” in the aftermath of UG’s second straight Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) win.
“I believe if you want to win the PUSAG and the UPAC in the same week…then work towards it but if you think you cannot work towards it then maybe you will have to find an alternative. University of Ghana for example, we knew there was UPAC and we knew there was bilateral games I called the technical team and said I want a strategy…and they told us they will divide the team into two, the weaker one will play the University of Ibadan and then we will rest some of the players… and that is what you should do” he said.
He was quick to note the commendable efforts of Marshalls University highlighting the team’s sharp rise to the upper echelon of tertiary basketball in Ghana.
Marshalls competed and won the Private Universities Sports Associations Games (PUSAG) Basketball competition just hours before playing in the UPAC knockout stages.
Courtside airs on between 14:00 and 16:00 GMT on Sundays on Ghana channel Kwese Free Sports.
