Accra Technical University (ATU) has clinched bronze in the 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship by beating University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) 42-20.
The record winners of the prestigious competition missed out on another final game following a 39-41 loss to Marshalls University College despite leading 21-8 in the first half.
ATU waltzed through the bronze medal game but had to sweat out the result in the first quarter of the game. Accra Technical led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter with UENR’s quick Point Guards slithering past their opponents with ease.
However, the veteran ATU side made its experience count down the stretch with the side’s Ghana Basketball Awards MVP duo Suleman Abubakar and Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan flexing their immense skill set.
UENR’s fourth place win is a step up from last year’s year performance which ended in the quarterfinals.
Marshalls University College and University of Ghana will compete for the ultimate title in the next game.
