Reigning Champions University of Ghana (UG) has begun the knockout stage of the 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship with a 38-23 win over Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The defending champs got off to a blistering note scoring seven straight points including a three point shot from Emmanuel Wolff.

However, KNUST bounced back strongly to finish the first quarter trailing by three points (6-9).

Matters remained close until the final quarter where UG’s dominance puts aside KNUST for good; UG entered the final quarter leading 24-18.

Marshalls University had to sweat out a close 52-51 win over University of Cape-Coast (UCC) despite having started strong. The back to back PUSAG Champions showed up early in the game jetting off to 15-5 lead.

Conversely, Marshalls showed signs of fatigue from winning the PUSAG just a day ago and wilted down the stretch to UCC’s benefit.

The Cape-Coast side fought back gallantly to close out the first half trailing 23-26 but failed to complete the comeback.
