University of Ghana (UG) has been drawn in a tough looking group ahead of the UPAC Basketball Championship quarterfinals.
The defending champions have been drawn in Group A with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Marshalls University College and University of Cape-Coast (UCC).
The draw for the most anticipated tertiary basketball event took place in the studio of Ghana television channel Kwese Free Sports during the live transmission of basketball show, “Courtside”.
Following a close win over KNUST in last year’s semifinals, UG faces the 2016 bronze medalist again in the knockout stage.
Marshalls University is another familiar opponent after losing out on an automatic spot in last year’s preliminary phase. Missed opportunities from the free throw line cost the side a chance to inflict defeat on the home side.
UCC returns to the prestigious stage after missing out on the 2016 edition. The 2015 third placed team beat Takoradi Technical University in a repeat of the 2016 preliminary final to make the cut.
The knockout phase of this year’s Championship takes place on April 7 and April8 at UG.
