Defending champions of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship University of Ghana (UG) has been drawn in a tough group in the quarterfinals of this season’s edition.

The draw was conducted during the live transmission of top rated basketball television show, “Courtside” on Ghana channel Kwese Free Sports.

UG is in Group A alongside Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Marshalls University College and University of Cape-Coast (UCC).

2016 beaten finalist Accra Technical University (ATU) is in Group B with University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), All Nations University College and University of Development Studies (UDS-Tamale).

UG faces a tough challenge to defend its title after drawing tough opponents including last year’s bronze medalist KNUST and the reigning Private Universities Sports Association Games (PUSAG) Basketball Champions, Marshalls University.

On the other hand, ATU is set to face two teams making their respective debuts at this stage of the competition in UDS and All Nations.

The knockout phase of this year’s Championship takes place on April 7 and 8 at the University of Ghana Central Courts.
