The 2017 season of the Tema Community Basketball League has commenced with a flurry of late heroics marking the first round of games in the competition.
However, three of the scheduled four game fixtures for the round were honored as Adenta Leopards tie against Ashaiman Warriors had to be cancelled due to the former’s absence at jump ball.
Warriors have since been awarded the win and maximum points.
This would have been the debut game for both sides following their inclusion in the 16 team roster ahead of this season; seven teams competed last season.
Teams have been drawn into two groups with the top four teams from each group making it to the playoffs.
On the court, Teshie Rangers got off to life in the league by beating fellow debutant Korle-Bu Kings 32-29 in the opening game before a fatal collapse cost Community 5 a win in the second game.
The side led through three quarters but failed to close the tie as it fell 24-25 to Community 12.
The final tie was the pick of the bunch as Tema Heat beat Community 2 on the back off five three point conversions from Point Guard Kingsley Quist.
