Ghana National Fire Service Female Basketball Team has clinched its maiden win of the 2017 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division after beating University of Ghana (UG) 36-32.

The game took place at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu in what was the first of two meetings between the sides in an entertaining game.

Ghana Navy lost a closely contested game 30-31 to Tudu Galaxy in the next fixture at the same venue for the home side’s second win of the young season.

Heading into the game, Fire ranked last in the standings after suffering a humbling 26-46 loss to defending Champions Braves of Customs in a previous matchup.

Despite trailing 15-16 to UG at the end of the first half, Fire Service picked up the pace on offense but still trailed to UG at the end of the third quarter 25-27.

However, the side caught up with the tertiary side midway through the final quarter as Point Guard Carlyn Adjei converted a three point shot.

Fire moved on to claim the win with a couple of converted baskets from the charity stripe.
