Ghana’s Northern Region is set to have its first representative in the quarterfinal of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship with University of Development Studies-Tamale (UDS) among teams scheduled to play.
The side has been invited to compete in the quarterfinals of the prestigious tertiary championship a year after failing to play despite qualifying from Zone A in last year’s Championship.
In 2016, UDS beat out Wa Polytechnic and Tamale Technical University to win the zone and secure a spot in the quarters. However, administrative challenges prevented the side from making the trip to the West African country’s capital, Accra.
Preliminary qualification games involving teams from the region were not played in this year’s championship. With the invitation, UDS is in line to play against the likes of reigning champions University of Ghana, Accra Technical University and Marshalls University College.
Debutant All Nations University College made it to the quarters after securing qualification from Zone B.
