Ghana basketball great Matthias Ocloo has been laid to rest after his sudden demise on March 16 at his residence.
In an extensive career that span multiple decades, Ocloo served as coach, referee and administrator.
Prior to his burial, stakeholders in the West African nation honored the elderly statesman across board.
Games in the Accra Basketball League began with a minute silence observation prior before; He is a founding father of the League.
A special video tribute was put together by acclaimed sports firm Rite Sports Limited that highlighted Ocloo’s immense contribution to the success of the Sprite Ball Championship- a program organized by the firm for high schools in Ghana.
He was also heavily involved in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship which is a Rite Sports program and in similar fashion, a minute silence was observed.
Matthias Ocloo passed away aged 71 and served time as Coach of CYO Basketball Club and S. Mary’s Senior High School.
He was Manager of Ghana’s National Basketball Teams and an Acting Chairman of Ghana’s Basketball Referees Association.
