The final funeral rites of former administrator and Ghana Basketball legend Matthias Ocloo will be observed later today after he was laid in state for the last time at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.
He has been whisked away to the burial site and a gathering gets underway moments after.
The function is expected to draw sympathizers and well wishers from Ghana’s sports sector particularly the basketball fraternity including Ghana Basketball Association Chairman David Addo Ashong and the Association’s Secretary General Rafiq Mohammed Arthur.
Several players, past and present, who look up to Ocloo as a father figure off and on the court, are expected to attend the funeral.
He passed away on March 16 at his residence in Dome, a suburb of Accra at 71 after serving for several years as a coach, referee and administrator.
He coached CYO Basketball Club, St. Mary’s Senior High School and University of Ghana and managed Ghana’s Female National Basketball Team.
Prior to his death, he was the Acting Chairman of Ghana’s Basketball Referees Association.
