The Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation has congratulated Honorable Isaac Asiamah and Honorable Pius Hadzide following their recent appointments as Sports Minister and Deputy Sports Minister respectively.

Ghana President Nana Akuffo-Addo appointed Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency Asiamah as Minister of Youth and Sports in January before appointing Hadzide as Deputy on March 15.

In a letter signed by National Media Coordinator Sandy Asiedu, the Federation congratulates the appointees and wishes them well in their tenure as Ministers.

The letter also highlights the immediate commitment of the government to the sector in light of the increase in money allocated to the ministry.

This year, the Ministry has been allocated $45.8 million double the amount received last year which stood at $22 million.

However, the Federation which is saddled with immense debt appeals to the Ministry to support its programs. Below is a copy of the letter:

PRESS RELEASE
CONGRATULATIONS TO ISAAC ASIAMAH AND PIUS HADZIDE AS SPORTS MINISTERS

The Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Ghana congratulate Isaac Kwame Asiamah on your appointment as Minister of Youth and Sports and Pius Enam Hadzide as Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.

The Federation is hopeful your time as Ministers will be the start of greater things to happen to sports in Ghana and we see the commitment from your department to ensure this becomes a reality.

We applaud your efforts in securing a significant improvement in money allocated to the Ministry from 22 million American Dollars to 45.8 million American Dollars.

It is our belief that equal attention will be given to all federations in disbursing the funds particularly to our federation which has been beset with several financial challenges.

The Federation has several programs lined up for the year headlined by the National Wheelchair Basketball Championship which takes place from July 10 to July 18 at a yet to be determined venue.

We call on your partnership to successfully see out these programs to encourage disabled youth to pick up the sport and see out its overall development.

Signed

Sandy Asiedu
