The 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship comes alive with Zone E games set to commence mere hours from now.
Host Accra Technical University (ATU) comes up against Pentecost University College, Wisconsin International University College and Central University with ATU expected to top the zone and qualify to the quarter finals.
However, two of the side’s key pieces, Suleman Abubakar and Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan have been involved in an intense game in the Accra Basketball League for Braves of Customs.
Both players played minutes in Braves 78-84 loss to Tema Youth and is likely to affect their selection for the two time winners because of burnout from Week 2 action in the league.
Should that fail to happen, the 2016 and 2015 Ghana Basketball Award Most Valuable Players will be in the running for a spot on the team.
Last year’s beaten finalist, go up against sides that failed to record wins in last year’s edition; Wisconsin and Central lost all games at the preliminary level. Pentecost won two games but failed to qualify for the quarter finals last year.
Winner of the zone qualifies to the quarter finals set to be played on April 6.
