The opening rounds of the 2017 Accra Basketball League (ABL) season has tipped off on a high flying note with shock results dominating the infant season thus far.
Almost a week after defending Women’s Division Champions Braves of Customs were piped by Tudu Galaxy 31-29 despite the latter featuring just six players the entire game, Braves Male team has suffered a similar fate at the hands of
bitter rival Tema Youth following a 78-84 loss.
Both Braves teams did not lose in their respective title winning campaigns last season.
The game lived every bit up to expectations as fans who thronged to the Lebanon House were thrilled with breathless skills from both teams as they battled into overtime with the score tied at 68.
Braves Guard Baniba Dodzie showcased his deadly shooting skill from the three point line by converting key buckets to haul Braves from a 47-59 deficit to a 60-59 lead.
Controversy never stayed out of the game as the fixture had to be stopped several times to calm incensed team personnel.
Not to be outdone, Tema Shooting Guard Jonathan Walker delivered three point conversions of his own. However, former Braves players Enoch Borsah and Ebenezer Borsah were instrumental in the key play that ultimately decided the game’s outcome.
Burly Forward Enoch gathered a contested rebound before sending brother Ebenezer speeding to the rim and draw a foul. He converted both free throws to give Tema an 80-78 lead in overtime.
Good movement by Youth ended with two straight easy baskets in the paint over a deflated Braves side to clinch the win.
On the downside, the second game of the round between Adenta Leopards and Ghana Navy was not honored.
