Games in Zone A and Zone D of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is set to be played at the University Of Ghana (UG) on March 10.
In the lead up to the big day, university authorities have made a huge statement on ensuring security isn’t tempered with by fencing the famed courts.
The move is to protect players and officials from overly enthusiastic fans who consistently encroach on the court during games and comes at a time when Ghana’s premier tertiary institution is set to host eight elite teams in the Greater Accra Region.
Last year’s UPAC final game between UG and Accra Technical University was interrupted for several minutes when fans spilled on to the court after UG Shooting Guard Emmanuel Wolff’s three point shot gave his side a 45-44 lead with eight seconds left to play.
UG begins its title defense with the team set to play Blue Crest University College, University of Professional Studies and Ho Technical University in Zone D.
2015 fourth placed side Marshalls University College takes on Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) and debutant Regional Maritime University.
