University of Ghana (UG) Women’s Basketball Team will compete in the 2017 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division after completing the registration process for Ghana’s premier female league.
The side is set to take on Ghana Navy in its opening game on March 9 at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu. Ghana Navy finished fifth last season and Tipoff time is 18:00 GMT.
UG’s opening game follows Tudu Galaxy’s season opener against defending champions Braves of Customs at 17:00 GMT in a draw telecast live on television basketball show “Courtside” on Ghana channel Kwese Free Sports.
UG was set to compete in the 2016 season but administrative challenges prevented the team from doing so despite the team being on the six team roster and five teams have been registered for this year’s campaign.
The first two rounds of the campaign will be played in honor of fallen legends Matthias Ocloo and Benjamin Baafi.
Both men passed away in a fortnight stretch after battling short illnesses and both were influential figures in the ABL.
