The 2017 Accra Basketball League season opening rounds will be played in honour of former league stalwarts Matthias Ocloo and Benjamin Baafi according to league representative Emmanuel Quaye who made the statement on basketball television program “Courtside”.
Quaye was on hand to oversee the balloting of teams and subsequent draw for the fixtures and stated the first two rounds of the league in both Men’s and Women’s Divisions will be played in reverence to the departed legendary duo.
Ocloo is a founding father of the league and Baafi served as the League’s Administrator prior tohis death. Both men are winners of the Dedication and Valor Award at the Ghana Basketball League.
This year’s campaign tips off on March 9 with Tudu Galaxy taking on defending champions Braves of Customs in the Women’s Division; University of Ghana’s game against Ghana Navy follows.
In the Men’s Division I, DC Dynamics will play Tudu Magic before Ghana Navy entertains debutant Adenta Leopards. All games will be played at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu with a 17:00 GMT jump ball.
