Accra Basketball League Administrator Benjamin Baafi’s death has come as a big shock to the basketball fraternity following his demise in the late hours of Wednesday, March 1.

He died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana’s capital Accra after battling illness for several months.

This represents the second loss of a legendary figure in the country’s basketball organization in as many weeks in light of the demise of Matthias Ocloo who passed away on February 16 after battling ailments.

Both men played crucial roles in the formation and running of the Ghana’s premier basketball tournament, the Accra Basketball League (ABL).

Prior to his death, he served as the league’s head honcho and was the team manager of the Customs Teams in the Men’s and Women’s Division.

He also served as Director of Sports at the Ghana Revenue Authority. For his invaluable contribution to the growth of basketball in Ghana, Baafi was presented with the Dedication and Valour Award at the 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards.

After making a few appearances at the start of last season’s campaign, his ailing health prevented him from carrying on for the remainder of the season.
