Point Guard Kent Fosu Agyeman of Takoradi Polytechnic has been named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the just ended 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Zone E round of qualifiers played at the University of Cape-Coast.
The third edition of the UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona and had three institutions; hosts University of Cape-Coast (UCC), Cape-Coast Polytechnic and Takoradi Polytechnic compete for a quarter final spot in the main championship which is scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana on April 14.
Fosu Agyeman, whose versatility extends beyond the court,-participated in the dance heavy “basketball” musical chairs-, showed tremendous agility when going to the rim, passed right and shot the ball well as he guided his side to a wonderful run in the competition punctuated by sealing top spot in the zone and earning a spot in the last eight of the competition in the process.
In a crucial third quarter of the final game against UCC, Kent’s piercing forays into the paint gave Takoradi Polytechnic a massive boost as it catapulted the team into a scoring run which did not just whittle the deficit but put the team firmly in a period where the game’s lead was exchanged by both teams.
His impressive displays, combined with those of Morgan and Otu Laryea ensured Takoradi Polytechnic walked away as champions of Zone E. Upon receiving the award, the affable floor general was grateful to his teammates for the support and promised the team’s teaming fans he will work harder to be more successful in the main championship.
Fosu Agyeman joins Abdou Fatau, Robert Brew and Kelvin Sowah Kumah as Point Guards to be named MVP in preliminary qualifiers. Takoradi Polytechnic beat UCC 49-46 in the final game to be crowned champions and will represent Zone E at the main championship.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, YFM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
