South Africa Men’s Basketball Coach Craig Gilchrist has called up 20 players ahead of this year’s AfroBasket Championship qualifiers in Group G.
The preliminary list start preparations ahead of this month’s qualifiers for the Championship slated to take place between August 19 and 30 Brazzaville, Congo Republic.
South Africa has been placed in the group alongside host Zambia, Angola and Madagascar with top spot guaranteeing a place in Brazzaville.
The second placed team will play the runner up in Group H which could be either Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Seychelles.
Kwazulu Marlins trainer Gilchrist, who was appointed Head Coach a fortnight ago, noted his team is upbeat about competing in an interview with FIBA.com saying:
“Our players are always motivated, they get so little opportunity to play on a international stage so any tournament is an exciting challenge for them”.
