Ghana Forward Ben Bentil is in line to sign with the Dallas Mavericks from the NBA Development League after averaging 14 points and 5 rebounds for Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
The deal is a 10 day contract that gives Bentil the chance to make his NBA debut months after he was drafted 51st overall in the Draft.
He is on the clock to sign with 2011 NBA Champions with Point Guard Quinn Cook who plays for the Development League’s Canton Charge per SBNation. com.
Bentil was not present for Fort Wayne’s 110-108 win over Erie BayHawks on February 25. Cook last featured for Canton on February 22 where he scored 31 points in a 109-115 loss to Delaware 87ers.
This comes as great news for Bentil’s camp who has endured a turbulent start to his professional career after an impressive College career that had him average 21points and seven rebounds per game.
He was cut by Boston Celtics after selecting him in the last year’s draft before signing with Indiana Pacers. He spent two months in the Chinese Basketball Association before returning to the Pacers affiliate team Fort Wayne.
Bentil is the first Ghana born player to be drafted into the NBA; soon he will be the first to play in it.
