Host of the 2017 UPAC Basketball Championship Zone B qualifiers, Koforidua Technical University (KTU), has exited the competition.
The host team crashed out of the competition’s preliminary stage with a game left to play following two straight losses to Valley View University and KAAF University College.
KTU lost the opening game 26-28 to All Nations University College in a game the host team fought gallantly in the final half to ensure victory only to fail at the final hurdle.
The side trailed All Nations for much of the game including 4-7 and 8-16 deficits in the first two quarters.
Another loss, this time to fellow debutant KAAF University condemned the side to finish bottom of the zone. KTU lost 22-23 to leave the partisan crowd frustrated as they watched another agonizing close loss.
Trailing by six (8-14) in the first half, KTU fought hard to close the deficit to just one point before time run out.
Only the winner of the zone qualifies to the quarterfinals due to be played in Ghana’s capital, Accra on April 6 and 7.
