Ghana Basketball Association Chairman David Addo Ashong has stated the basketball community in the nation is going to miss former administrator Matthias Ocloo following his sudden demise on February 16 after a long spell with illness.

Addo Ashong made the statement in an interview with Yaw Sakyi Afari on Courtside Show which aired on Ghana channel Kwese Free Sports. He was deeply saddened by Ocloo’s death stating;

“Generations have learnt to play basketball at his hands. He used to encourage young people especially women so he was focusing on building the game from the grass root and that’s the most important thing the game needs”.

Asked what Ghana has lost in light of Ocloo’s death, Addo Ashong responded “an icon”.

Prior to his ailment and death, Matthias Ocloo served in many departments in the game as a referee, coach and manager. He coached CYO, St. Mary’s Senior High School, University of Ghana and Ghana’s Female National Team.

He was the Acting Chairman of Ghana’s Basketball Referees Association and supervised many programs including the Sprite Ball and UPAC Championships.
