The competition which is a curtain raiser for the upcoming Tema Community Basketball League season, had both teams make it to the latter stage at the expense of Don Bosco Giants and Community 12.
Last season’s second place team Ashaiman Lions qualified undefeated with comfortable wins including a 56-20 win over neighboring Bosco with its deep talented side dominate play from start to finish. 2016 High School Male Player of the Year Dennis Dugbennu was instrumental in the matchup.
On the other hand, Tema Heat recovered from an opening loss to Lions and high flying Center Gershon Dzorvor to beat Bosco 47-6 and Community 12 46-31 to place second in the group.
Dzorvor exited the opening game of the round after suffering a ghastly head injury which required extensive treatment.
Both teams join Nungua Coldstore and Community 2 in the quarter finals scheduled to take place on March 12 at the same venue. Games in Groups C and D will be played in subsequent weeks.
