This year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is set to begin on Friday February 24 with games in Zone B scheduled to start the almost eight week journey to reveal which institution wins Ghana’s most prestigious tertiary basketball tournament.

Games in the zone involves host Koforidua Technical University, KAAF University College, Valley View University and All Nations University College.

The Championship was originally scheduled to start on February 17 at the University of Ghana with Marshalls University College taking Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Ghana Technology University College and debutant Maritime University College.

A string of complications derailed the competition from commencing on the original date including the sudden demise of leading supervisor Matthias Ocloo in the wee hours on Thursday February 16 at his residence.

The deceased was a key member of the competition’s leadership and contributed significantly to its growth thanks to his wealth of experience after serving in different roles as Referee, Coach and Administrator.

A new date for Zone A qualifiers is yet to be announced by competition organizers Rite Sports.
