The 2017 UPAC Basketball Championship tips off on Friday, February 24 Basketballghana.com can confirm.
This year’s edition which features 28 tertiary institutions starts on the above mentioned date at Koforidua Technical University in Ghana’s Eastern regional capital, Koforidua.
Games will involve the host team, KAAF University College, All Nations University College and Valley View University.
Competition organizers, award winning sports firm Rite Sports Limited, announced the change in date exclusively to the nation’s leading hoops portal after reports emerged of uncertainties regarding the competition’s start.
Reports reveal leading supervisor of the Championship, Matthias Ocloo’s sudden death, was the main reason behind the change in plans as moving the start date was a way for the firm to pay its respect to the legendary Ghanaian figure.
He was 71 and served in several capacities including coaching stints at CYO Basketball Club, St. Mary’s Senior High School and Ghana’s Female National Basketball Team.
Ocloo coached reigning UPAC Champions, University of Ghana, for eight years.
