Reigning Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship University of Ghana (UG) has lost former Coach and Ghana Basketball stalwart Matthias Ocloo.
Ocloo coached UG for eight years but passed away early on Thursday February 16 at his residence in Ghana’s capital, Accra after battling serious ailments the past few months.
Following his sudden death, the tertiary institution’s Sports Directorate figure heads have come out to commiserate with the deceased family and loved ones.
Director of Sports at the institution, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu stated, “My condolence may his soul rest in peace.
Henry Sackey also of the Sports Directorate spoke on the sad issue saying, ““His contribution to the development of basketball is immeasurable. The number of girls he developed from St. Mary’s was overwhelming. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
UG, who beat University of Cape-Coast to win this year’s Mini GUSA Games basketball competition, are set to defend its UPAC title later this year in Zone D.
The side has been drawn alongside Blue Crest University College, University of Professional Studies and Ho Technical University.
