Tipoff for the 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is set to be moved to another date per reports gathered by Basketballghana.com.
This year’s edition of Ghana’s most prestigious tertiary basketball championship was scheduled to start on February 17 with games in Zone A at the University of Ghana.
Marshalls University College, debutant Maritime University College, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Ghana Technology University College were due to compete on Friday.
However, investigations by Ghana’s leading basketball portal gives strong indication, the tournament is most likely to begin on a yet to be named date as a result of a slew of last minute hitches and unforeseen challenges.
One of the reported reasons is the sudden demise of Matthias Ocloo, a leading supervisory figure who passed earlier on Thursday February 16 at his residence in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
As a veteran administrator, coach and referee, Ocloo’s immense wealth of experience has shaped the Championship into a must see annual spectacle.
His deep knowledge and direction has steered the tournament since its inception in 2011.
Ocloo coached reigning UPAC Champions University of Ghana for eight years.
