Senegal’s Male National Basketball Team heads into the second day of training camp today as it prepares for the upcoming African Basketball Championship.

The Lions officially opened the three day camp on February 13 with a host of locally based players; three more similar training camps will be organized before the national team takes on Mali and Guinea next month.

Senegal has been drawn alongside Mali and Guinea in Group B of the continent’s Zone 2 qualifiers for this year’s AfroBasket Championship; 14 players have been invited to camp and is headlined by Louis Adams who was part of the team that competed in last year’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Senegal is expected to compete in the qualifiers with a large local contingent as foreign-based players including
Minnesota Timberwolves Center Gorgui Dieng will be in action for their club sides.

After placing fourth in the 2015 Championship, the West African nation is widely considered a major force on the continent.

In other related news, reigning AfroBasket Champions Nigeria has been invited to play a series of friendly games against top ranked teams including France, Serbia and Argentina.

This year’s AfroBasket takes place in Brazzaville, Congo between August 19-30.
