Ahmed drives to the basket.

It was a good weekend for Ghanaians in American Colleges as a trio of the nation’s top performing basketball players produced topnotch numbers in the division as Ernest Aflakpui, Amida Brimah and Bashir Ahmed scored in double figures for their teams.

Aflakpui was in good form as he tallied 14 points and seven rebounds in Temple University’s 83-74 win over University of South Florida.

The Power Forward played 24 minutes and did most of his damage from the free throw where he scored six of eight attempts for the Owls 13th win of the season.

However, Aflakpui will be the only member of the trio to get a win as Ahmed’s 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists were not enough to get St. John’s University a win.

The Red Storm lost 79-92 to reigning national Champions Villanova. His points tally alongside those from Guard Shamorie Ponds paced St. John’s.

Brimah scored 16 points for University of Connecticut (UCONN) in the side’s 68-82 loss to Cincinnati. He complemented his scoring exploits with five rebounds and two blocks.

It marked the second straight game the 7 foot Center has scored in double figures following his 18 point outing in the win over Tulane.
