The 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship will have four teams make their respective debuts in the competition with Koforidua Technical University, Maritime University, KAAF University and All Nations University Colleges play in the Championship for the first time.
However, with the exception of Maritime University, all three remaining debutants have been drawn in Zone B alongside Valley View University with games set to be played on February 24 at Koforidua Technical.
Valley View is the only side that has experience playing in this competition after featuring in last year’s edition.
However, the side barely made it into the quarter finals thanks to University of Development Studies (UDS) failure to show up due to administrative challenges.
Valley View failed to win any games in the quarters before exiting the competition. Coupled with the loss of Starting Shooting Guard Bright Otu-Masi, Valley View’s chances of repeating a final eight feat hangs in the balance which opens the door for the debutants to creep into elite territory.
Only winners from the zone qualifies to play in Ghana’s capital, Accra on April 6 and 7for a spot in the semis and final games.
