ATU (white) lost to UG in last year’s final.

2015 winner of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Wilfred Romeo Enan has missed out on being named Male Player of the Year at the Nigeria Basketball Federation Awards held last night in Abuja.

The Award went to Kano Pillars Dele Ademola ahead of teammate Abubakar Usman, Romaric Yamalin of Nigeria Customs and Enan.

Enan won the UPAC Championship with Accra Technical University (ATU) in 2015 on his way to being named Tertiary Player of the Year the same year at the Ghana Basketball Awards.

He also played for Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I powerhouse Braves of Customs during his time in Ghana before moving to Nigeria to play for Kwara Falcons.

His nomination was in recognition of a wonderful debut season in the Nigerian League where he made the All Star Game and was named Most Outstanding Player.

The elite shot blocker was not part of ATU’s team that lost 44-45 to University of Ghana (UG) in last year’s UPAC Championship. That loss broke ATU’s stranglehold on the competition as it marked the end of the institution’s unbeaten streak in the competition.

This year’s competition starts on February 17. Zone D qualifiers has reigning champions UG take on University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Blue Crest University College and Ho Technical University.

Accra Technical University is in Zone E alongside Pentecost University College, Wisconsin University College and Central University.
