2015 winner of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Wilfred Romeo Enan has been nominated for the Male Player of the Year Award in the DSTV Nigeria Male Premier Basketball League.
Enan has been nominated alongside Kano Pillars duo Usman Abubakar and Dele Ademola Romaric Yamalin of Nigeria Customs in the category. The ceremony will be held tonight in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
The soft spoken defender has been on song in his debut season in Nigeria for Kwara Falcons after playing for Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I powerhouse Braves of Customs in Ghana and Accra Technical University (ATU).
He was drafted into Kano Pillars roster that placed fourth at the FIBA African Champions Cup last year.
The 6 foot 9inch Center led ATU to its second UPAC title in 2015 before being named Tertiary Player at the Ghana Basketball Awards a few months later.
ATU beat Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) 53-40 in an enthralling final game that had the former rally from behind to top the Kumasi-based team.
Accra Technical University however, lost 44-45 to University of Ghana in last year’s Championship to relinquish the coveted title.
This year’s edition begins in February and is expected to end in April.
