Sprite Ball Champions Opoku Ware School (OWASS) is set to embark on a tour as part of its celebrations to mark its first ever Championship win per reports gathered by Basketballghana.com.
The school, based in Ghana’s Ashanti regional capital Kumasi, will visit several alumni branches dotted all over the West African country.
The Sprite Ball Championship is widely regarded as Ghana’s biggest and most prestigious high school basketball tournament.
Presentation of the trophy will be done as a means to get former students commiserate with the playing body and present student body. OWASS ‘s tour is historic considering no team from the region had won the competition’s male division prior to the lads from the land of “Akatakyie”.
Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School won the girls division in 2010 to become the first Ashanti Region School to win Sprite Ball.
Opoku Ware beat Mfantsipim School 27-25 in the final game of the tenth anniversary edition of the Championship that took place on December 30 last year.
Prior to its win, OWASS placed third at the 2014 and 2015 editions respectively. The side earned 10,000 Ghana Cedis for emerging Champions. Wesley Girls High School won the girls division.
