Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) side Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers has released Ghana Forward Benjamin Bentil. The Ghanaian international has returned to the United States where he has signed to NBA Development League club Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
Bentil featured in 11 games for the Tigers as a replacement for injured Center Andray Blatche who was sidelined in the opening rounds of the league with an injury he picked up.
Following the return of Blatche to the rotation, Bentil was not featured in Xinjiang’s final round of games in the final weeks of 2016.
He has not been part of the team since the turn of the year either as the CBA limits the number of foreign players in the league.
Alongside fellow NBA Draftee Zhou Qi, Bentil started his CBA career on a high note as he recorded 28 points, three rebounds and one block in 22 minutes in a game against Jilin Northeast Tigers.
However, his performance tailed off in subsequent weeks including a five point showing against Bayi Fubang Rockets.
Bentil averaged 13.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and I.0 steals per game. The 2016 NBA 51st overall pick leaves with the Tigers in second place in the CBA standings.
