The fourth edition of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship is reportedly set to commence in February as tertiary institutions in Ghana get the chance to topple defending champions University of Ghana (UG).
With the beloved tournament expected to take place sometime next month some public universities had the chance to test their team’s strengths ahead of the Championship by playing in the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games Basketball competition.
The competition took place at the University of Cape-Coast (UCC) and its modern gymnasium hosted the seven teams. Aside heading to the Championship as defending champs, UG topped UCC 75-56 to win the title and lays down the gauntlet for competing schools.
UCC’s impressive form gives it fans hope of getting past the zonal tournament after failing to do so last year as Takoradi Polytechnic piped the host to its sole qualification spot.
Despite qualifying from the zonal division, University of Development Studies (UDS) failed to represent at the main championship due to internal issues.
The side put in a good shift at the GUSA Games as it placed third; the side looks good to qualify from the Northern division.
