Teams preparing for the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship have made it clear competing in the just ended GUSA Games puts them in the right condition to perform well in the upcoming tournament.
Seven teams representing some of Ghana’s public universities competed at the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games basketball competition at the University of Cape-Coast (UCC) recently with University of Ghana (UG) emerging champions.
“Of course with every game we win it sorts of builds our confidence… so by the time we get to the UPAC Games, we will all be prepared for it” UG Guard Mawuko Kwami when asked about the importance of featuring in such a competition ahead of the tournament.
His views were echoed by UCC Guard Ibrahim Mohammed who said, “coming to this tournament we really had to work a lot together…so we are preparing very much for the UPAC”.
All teams that competed in the GUSA tournament were present at last year’s UPAC Championship with exception of University of Professional Studies (UPSA) and University of Education-Winneba (UEW) who withdrew at the final turn.
UG were crowned champions after beating UCC 75-56 and University of Development Studies (UDS) came third.
UG are the defending UPAC Champions.
