University of Ghana (UG) Guard Mawuko Kwami has stated winning the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Basketball competition puts the team in the right mind set to defend its UPAC title.

UG won the 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship after toppling then defending champion Accra Polytechnic 45-44 in a tense final game.

Speaking to Basketballghana.com after winning the seventh GUSA basketball competition at the University of Cape-Coast (UCC), Mawuko was adamant the win gives the team an edge.

“Yes of course definitely with every game we win, it sort of builds our confidence and for the new players on the team this is a great learning experience for them so that by the time we get to the UPAC Games we will all be prepared for it and be ready to take down any team that comes our way” he said.

The 2017 UPAC is reportedly set to take place in February with Ghana’s top tertiary institutions set to engage each other in tough matchups for top honours.

UG beat host UCC 75-56 in the final game with Mawuko leading the side to a dominant second quarter where UCC got blitzed 19-40. University of Development Studies (UDS).
