Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will square things off with University of Development Studies (UDS) for third place in the Mini Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Basketball competition.
The two teams will face off on Thursday January 12 at the University of Cape-Coast (UCC) Gymnasium at 7:00 GMT prior to the gold medal game between University of Ghana (UG) and the host institution which takes place at 8:30 GMT.
KNUST and UDS lost to the finalists with KNUST losing 35-43 to UG in a closely fought game that had the score tied at 32 in the third quarter.
UG tightened up on defense in the final quarter to ride to victory.
UDS lost 56-76 to UCC in a lopsided win for the host team who got massive backing from a partisan crowd.
The win puts UCC in the final game almost a year after placing third at the Main GUSA Games behind University of Professional Studies (UPSA) and UG.
After dominating 2016 with several wins including top finishes at the UPAC and All Africa University Games, UG begins 2017 with another final appearance.
This is the seventh edition of the Mini Games; the multi sport event ends on January 13.
