Reigning Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Champions University of Ghana (UG) begins the its quest to winning the mini version of the Games later today as the side prepares to take on University of Development Studies (UDS).
The game tips off at 17:30 GMT at University of Cape-Coast’s (UCC) modern gymnasium after Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) plays the host team in the first game of the round at 16:00 GMT.
The final game will have University of Professional Studies take on University of Education-Winneba at 18:30 GMT.
UG who double as UPAC and All Africa University Games Basketball Champions respectively, is set to begin the tournament as odds on favorites for the title following its impressive 2016 season where the team was adjudged the Team of the Year at the Ghana Basketball Awards.
Despite a host of players graduating from the program including Captain Aziz Abubakar, key pieces remain for the side to build on.
Guards Joel Tham and Emmanuel Wolff and Power Forward Maxwell Mod are with the team and their experience will be leaned on.
Coach Meme Falconer is a holdover from the all conquering team. UG is in Group A with UDS and University of Energy and Natural Resources.
