Reigning Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Basketball Champions University of Ghana (UG) have been handed a rather easy route to add the Mini GUSA title to its bulging trophy cabinet as it finds itself in the easier of two groups for the competition.

UG is in Group A alongside University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and University of Development Studies (UDS).

UG, which holds the UPAC and All Africa University Games Basketball titles, takes on UDS in the opening game on Friday January 6 before taking on UENR on January 8.

UDS and UENR both missed out on medals in 2016’s main GUSA Games.

Ghana’s premier university has a numerical advantage over sides in Group B who have three opposing sides each to play.

The group is headlined by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Professional Studies, host University of Cape-Coast (UCC) and University of Education-Winneba (UEW). UPSA and UCC placed second and third respectively at the major Games.

KNUST placed third in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship 2016 edition a year after placing second.

The latter stages of the competition will be played on January 10 and January 12.
