The qualifiers will determine which schools qualify for the upcoming national championship-Sprite Ball Championship- in Ghana’s capital, Accra in January, 2017. Reigning Champions St. Augustine’s won its first ever title earlier in the year after beat Mfantsipim 37-22 in the final game.
However, the four time winners Mfantsipim beat Augustine’s 40-23 recently at the zonal games which sets up potential clash as a must see event. Both schools have lost core members of the past edition with Mfantsipim losing the likes of Center Elorm Dzissah and 2016 High School Male Player of the Year Dennis Dugbennu and Point Guard Raymond Affram.
Ahead of the games, 2013 Ghana Basketball Awards Overall Most Valuable Player Baniba Dodzie spent some time with Augustine’s team.
Aside the aforementioned pair, the region also boasts of talented teams that can cause a surprise. Familiar face at the national level, Adisadel College has a wealth of experience competing at the level. Coupled with threats from Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion and Cape-Coast Technical Institute, the male division will be keenly contested.
