Ghana Education Service National Physical Education Coordinator Emmanuel Domenya has stated the major reasons behind his organization’s staunch support for the nation’s high school basketball competition- Sprite Ball Championship.
In an exclusive interview with Basketballghana.com, the veteran Coordinator highlighted the competition’s immense exposure of talented youngsters in the country and its contribution to developing basketball in the West African country. He said:
“It’s one platform (Sprite Ball) where we mobilize our students to every year, showcase our talents because aside that, it means some might not even have the opportunity of playing basketball in the senior high school…this is the way we can develop some of these talents and therefore there is no way we will shun it”.
Since its inception in 2007, Sprite Ball has featured over 250 high schools in both male and female divisions in Ghana compete in the annual tournament. Reigning champions St. Augustine’s College and Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion School are set to launch respective defenses to their titles in the Central Regional Basketball Championship.
The Championship is set to take place on Tuesday December 29 in the capital, Cape-Coast.
