Ghana and former Boston Celtics Forward Benjamin Bentil has signed with Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) side Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers after his shock move from NBA Development League side Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
The 6 foot 9 inch former Providence College player has been signed to replace injured Center Andray Blatche formerly of Brooklyn Nets. However Basketballghana.com gathers the deal is likely to be a short one per celticslife.com.
Having relinquished its hold on Bentil, Boston, who drafted him into the NBA with the 51st pick in this year’s Draft, will not benefit from his services on his likely return; Indiana Pacers hold the rights now through its’ lower league affiliate Fort Wayne.
He will line up with fellow 2016 Draftee Zhou Qi in Xinjiang as the Chinese seven footer has been assigned to the CBA for more playing time and experience. The CBA regular season began on October 29 this year and will end on February 19, 2017.
Sichuan Blue Whales are the reigning Champions.
In his first and only game for Fort Wayne, Bentil recorded a 27 point, 10 rebound double-double in a 120-99 win over Greensboro Swarm; Swarm is the Development League affiliate of NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.
