The 2016 Central Regional Basketball Championship is set to take place on Tuesday November 29 in the region’s capital, Cape-Coast after the purported date sometime this past week was scrapped due to several reasons.
One main reason for the change of date was to enable newly admitted students get ample time for coaches to assess their skill before deciding to add them to existing rosters. The region’s immense depth of talent makes it one of the most competitive regional championships in the country as highly rated high school basketball programs are found there.
Reigning Sprite Ball Boys and Girls Champions, St. Augustine’s College and Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion School will play in the one day tournament against the likes of four time national champions Mfantsipim School.
Mfantsipim failed to make it a fifth title win as the side lost 37-22 at the 2016 Final game against nemesis St. Augustine’s . Former winner Wesley Girls High School and two time bronze medalist Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School will also feature in the girls competition.
Places at next year’s national championship-Sprite Ball- will be up for grabs in both divisions.
